Books

“One must always be careful of books,” said Tessa, “and what is inside them, for words have the power to change us.”

– Cassandra Clare

There are lots of great quotes about the power of books, and the possibility they have to changing us. The books I’ve listed here, have in one way or another, influenced me to be a better blogger, film maker, developer and person. Enjoy!

Technical Blogging: Amplify Your Influence – Antonio Cangiano

Technical Blogging - Antonio Cangiano

This was the book I used as the basis to pull this blog together! It takes you through planning, selecting a host, configuring your blog, SEO, article writing, other forms of promoting and monetization. Best of all it’s not sensational – doesn’t promise to make you a millionaire etc. Highly recommended.

Pro ASP.NET Core MVC 2 – Adam Freeman

The Rolls-Royce of ASP.NET Books, (or if you’re American the Cadillac of ASP.NET Books). Very thorough, although might loose beginners in places.

Ruby on Rails Tutorial – Michael Hartl

This is how a programming tutorial book should be written! Great writing style, covers loads of concepts, easy to follow and you end up with a working app at the end of it. If you want a change from C#, and fancy a bit of RoR – this is the book to start you off!

The Personal MBA – Josh Kaufman

Not a book about programming, but one that’s filled with really interesting, excellent content, (especially if you’re thinking about starting a business). Moreover it provides a really refreshing perspective on further education, (especially post-graduate degrees, and MBA’s specifically). I was seriously thinking in doing a Masters degree until I read this – I have not regretted my decision, or the $1000’s I’ve saved! Will challenge your perceptions.
